All Things Bright and Beautiful
In the dim light of dawn, the sky across the Huangpu River softened into a pale glow. The morning sun rose slowly behind the eastern buildings, spreading golden rays over the red rooftops of Wutong District. Light spilled across the windowsill, filtering through thin white gauze curtains to cast hazy streaks of light by the bedside. The textured green wall, tinged now with a faint pink by the filtered dawn, radiated warmth. Dust motes floated silently in the sunbeams. Outside, the stream of cars reflected the morning glow without a sound; inside, the dawn light quietly seeped into every corner. A new day began within this tranquil wash of warm hues.
This framework-construction building was transformed by demolishing all interior walls, reconstructing a “light-oriented” home. Rooms on the northern and southern wings connect to the east-facing living room, forming a gallery bathed in light. Sunrise from the east gradually fills the house with illumination while avoiding the scorching midday heat. At dusk, sunlight streams through the western floor-to-ceiling windows, painting the entire space scarlet. Along the path of daylight, this dwelling evolves organically like a living organism.
Beneath exposed beams, lush greenery thrives in resonance with clusters of plants springing from light wells amid the urban grid. The brushstrokes preserved on green textured paint, the shifting luster of red velvet under varying angles, the tactile relief of black pottery tea tables, and the dancing wood grains on wall panels—all converge to manifest the vitality of space. The open kitchen, enveloped in wood veneer, features each grain recording the tree’s growth rings. The circulation path around the island counter flows with heightened dynamism beneath the rhythm of mountain-like veining. In the bedroom, wood-grain jade inlaid beside timber creates a contrast between translucency and solidity, their patterns echoing each other. Within this compact realm, the grandeur of stone forests and mountain seas unfolds.
“Dwelling in the mundane while aspiring to mountains and seas” has always anchored our design philosophy. We revere nature, believing that great spaces can awaken urban dwellers’ perception of the natural world within concrete jungles, allowing them to draw renewed energy. On another level, we hope our designs transcend physical confines to accompany everyone in pursuing their inner landscapes.
The first principle is readily tangible: through light, color, texture, temperature, and sound, we forge connections with nature, crafting comfortable, positively charged spaces. Building upon this foundation, the second principle leverages space to curate spiritual moments—such as placing an emerald velvet banquette where the sunset spills into a room, guiding us to savor that fleeting instant.
